Doctors Against Genocide Second Annual Conference

Conference Theme

Genocide and Mass Atrocities as a Global Public Health Emergency

Background and Rationale

Genocide and mass atrocities produce catastrophic public health consequences: destruction of healthcare infrastructure, systematic targeting of healthcare workers, forced starvation, denial of medical access, and the resurgence of preventable infectious diseases. These violations constitute direct assaults on human health and survival.

Doctors Against Genocide convenes this annual conference to examine the evidence, document the impact on health systems and populations, and develop strategies for prevention, accountability, and response.

Objectives

  • Present clinical and epidemiological evidence on the health impacts of genocide and mass atrocities.
  • Provide a platform for frontline clinicians and health professionals to share testimony and field-based experiences.
  • Analyze the role of medical ethics and international humanitarian law in contexts of mass violence.
  • Develop advocacy and policy recommendations ensuring that medical voices shape accountability, humanitarian action, and atrocity prevention.
  • Strengthen multidisciplinary networks committed to health, justice, and genocide prevention.

Program Highlights

  • Keynote Lectures: Global perspectives on health and genocide.
  • Panel Discussions: Testimony from clinicians in conflict zones.
  • Scientific Sessions: Presentations on epidemiology, health systems, and humanitarian interventions.
  • Workshops: Advocacy, medical ethics, and policy engagement.
  • Networking Sessions: Building solidarity across disciplines and borders.

Target Audience

  • Physicians, nurses, paramedics, and allied health professionals.
  • Students and trainees in medicine, nursing, and public health.
  • Academics and researchers in global health, human rights, and international law.
  • Humanitarian practitioners, advocates, and policy leaders.

Media Participation

Doctors Against Genocide welcomes accredited journalists, media outlets, and health reporters to attend the conference. Sessions will provide critical documentation of medical testimony, evidence from conflict zones, and expert analysis relevant to ongoing international debates on humanitarian law and genocide prevention.

Media representatives will have opportunities to:

  • Attend plenary and breakout sessions.
  • Conduct interviews with speakers, clinicians, and organizers.
